Early into my childhood I was fascinated by science and healthcare. I enjoyed it so broadly that I found it difficult to pinpoint where to focus my long-term efforts. I spent quality time in different areas – from evaluating microscopic samples in a forensics lab to teaching college anatomy in New Orleans. I also considered research and pursued a master’s degree in cellular and molecular biology at Tulane University.

It was after my mother was diagnosed with node-positive breast cancer that I quickly became passionate about medical oncology. Practicing in this field offered what I and many believe to be the most innovative and research-heavy field in medicine, both on a clinical level down to the molecular sciences. The fields of medical oncology and hematology provide me with the opportunity to take my interest in scientific details and apply them to a bigger picture involving patient care, treatment and overall patient well-being. As difficult of an experience as my mother’s cancer diagnosis was for my family, I am grateful for that experience. I believe it equipped me to be an even more compassionate physician to my patients and their families during what otherwise can be a very challenging time.
